26 Effective Home Remedies For Typhoid Fever

Typhoid fever, or simply typhoid, is a bacterial infection that often manifests as diarrhea and a rash. This bacteria infection, mostly caused by the Salmonella typhi bacterium, affects the intestinal tract and the bloodstream.

The S. Typhi bacterium gets into the human body through contaminated drinks, water, or food. It then multiplies and travels to the intestines and gets into the bloodstream. From the bloodstream, the bacteria travel to the lymph node, liver, gallbladder, spleen and other parts of the body.

Some people become carriers of the bacteria and release it from their stool for years, thus, spreading the disease.

Typhoid fever is more prevalent in developing countries than in developed countries. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 21.5 million people in developing countries contract typhoid every year.

Early symptoms of typhoid fever include; abdominal pain, fever, weakness, headache, general ill feeling. High fever and severe diarrhea could consequently manifest as typhoid worsens.

Furthermore, some people develop a rash on their chest and abdomen called “rose spots”.

Other symptoms that occur include; severe fatigue, chills, nosebleed, bloody stools, delirium, and difficulty in paying attention.

Once one is diagnosed with typhoid, the doctor prescribes antibiotics for the bacteria. Typhoid symptoms usually dissipate after 2 to 4 weeks of proper treatment. It is better to start treatment early because treatments become less effective as complications develop.

Endeavor to consult a healthcare provider for proper treatment. Use home remedies as ancillary treatments.

Here are some tips and good practices, to consider, in order to prevent getting infected with typhoid especially while traveling;
